Volunteer for one day at Canoga Park Elementary!

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: Junior Achievement of Southern California

This is a one day opportunity called a JA Day. A JA Day is an event where volunteers go into a classroom for one school day and teach 4 or 5 JA activities. Prior to the JA Day, volunteers attend a 90 minute training and are given a JA kit. Each JA kit contains all of the materials a volunteer would possibly need to teach students. JA curriculum aligns with common core standards for Math, English and Language Arts, so rest assured you are delivering a quality lesson. Volunteers are encouraged to interweave their business experience with the lesson. JA Days have a profound impact on our students. Our lessons focus on entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and workforce readiness. Volunteers love this opportunity because it is a great way to get familiar with JA, it’s only a one-day commitment, and it puts them directly in a classroom with students.

Mission Statement

To educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics in order to improve the quality of their lives.

Description

Junior Achievement of Southern California is a non-profit organization whose mission is to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. Our three pillars of success: entrepreneurship, financial literacy and work readiness, are helping prepare young people for the real world by showing the economic relevance of staying in school, building self-confidence, and inspiring them to dream big for their futures.

At JA Finance Park, students are given a unique life profile after answering a series of future lifestyle questions. Their life profile includes an income, marital status, even kids! Using this new adult persona, students work to create a balanced monthly budget while making decision regarding housing, transportation, insurance, savings, entertainment expenses and much more.
