ORGANIZATION: California Department of Fish and Wildlife

  • A group opportunity. Invite your friends.

Join us at Trout Fest for a fun-filled day of fishing and fish-related activities, presented by the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

We are looking for volunteers to help community members with the following activities:

Fishing - The event favorite! Small Fry Fishing area allows youth, 15 and under, the opportunity to catch a trout. Using CDFW equipment, volunteers will assist young anglers as they fish and keep poles rigged.

Fly Fishing/Casting/Tying - Assist your local fly fishing organization; introduce the public to fly fishing.

Fish Cleaning - Volunteers demonstrate proper trout cleaning technique; children will watch in awe of you as you clean their prize catch from the Small Fry Fishing area.

Fish Prints - Volunteers will practice the ancient art of Gyotaku in a modern form, helping attendees create their own trout art using rubber fish or real fish with paint to create relief images.

Casting - Using spin cast rod & reel volunteers will help attendees practice the art of casting while they try their hand at "catching" Velcro and plastic fish.

Knot Tying Station - Various knots commonly used in fishing are displayed, and volunteers help attendees practice tying them using different size ropes.

Rigging - Volunteers will advise public on different rigging methods for rivers, lakes and streams.

Fish Feeding - Volunteers will distribute fish feed to guests; one of the favorite activities for attendees.

Trout Touch Pool - Attendees have the opportunity to touch trout at this station, where volunteers teach participants the proper way to handle a fish and discuss some of the physiological features of trout.

Trout Cooking & Tasting - Volunteers demonstrate the many ways you can prepare trout & share samples with guests. (Grill for cooking located at station).

Bean Bag Toss/Magnetic Fish - Volunteers will assist our youngest guests with hand eye coordination.

Welcome Booth - Volunteers will greet attendees and collect basic information as visitors enter.

Floaters - Volunteers will move from station to station, offering other volunteers the opportunity to take a quick break, eat lunch, etc.

Parking - Volunteers will keep guests safe & things moving smoothly by directing vehicles as they park.

Water, snacks, and a light lunch will be provided.
