ORGANIZATION: Alzheimer's Association Illinois Chapter

General Summary of Position:

The Corporate Engagement department plays a critical role in securing funds for programs, services and events offered by the Chapter. The overall goal for a Foundation/Corporate Relations intern would be to support on-going work for donors that are being considered and stewarded, but also to support work that is required to further explore prospective donors/grantors. The volunteer would be especially helpful to the Grants office as it continues with processes and policies.

Schedule Requirements:

During regular business hours, Monday through Friday: 9:00a.m. - 5:00p.m. (Flexible) 1-2 days per week.

Length of Commitment:

Mid/May - Mid/August 2016

Essential Job Functions:

  • Completes research and Prospect Worksheets for potential grantors, primarily foundations-corporate and public/private, as well as research for potential corporate leads.
  • Assists with preparing grant applications for submission, including writing cover letters for proposals or other attachments that need to be generated.
  • Assists in updating and maintaining grant folders and documents, including helping to establish a GIC grant file system.
  • Provides telephone support in regards to following-up with prospective grantors, corporations, and GIC staff to collect program information needed for proposals.
  • Utilize online database to create lists of potential corporate leads.
  • Utilize corporate prospect rating system to prioritize leads.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Strong written and oral skills; proof reading and editing skills are a plus.
  • Detailed oriented with ability to multi-task and organize several projects at one time.
  • Competent in Microsoft Word; knowledge/experience with Excel also preferred.
  • Work/volunteer experience in a nonprofit organization is a plus.

Training Requirements:

  • Chapter volunteer orientation
  • One-on-one training with Grant Writer and VP, Corporate Engagement - as needed by project assignment.
