The Museum sees over 20,000 school children each year from September to May. To help make their trip to the Museum and exceptional learning opportunity, we offer guided tours / education programs that takes the students through a variety of exhibits.
As a guide for the West Michigan Habitats, you will take a group of 2nd through 6th graders through our exhibit talking about everything from what is a habitat to what is predator vs prey. These program are not just fun and interactive for the students, but are designed with the volunteer in mind. We will train you on the tour and at the museum we firmly believe, if at any point this in the program for you, just let us know and we will see where we can have you train that is more suitable for you and your interest.
At the Grand Rapids Public Museum, we do not just say "We love our volunteers" but we live it every day with lots of benefits from free tours, memberships (after you hit a set amount of hours), coffee, cookies and those are just some of the benefits to volunteering for us. If you are interested in learning more, or want to come to the Museum for a walk through to see the different areas you can volunteer, please email or call our volunteer manager Joseph Landmichl at 616.929.1717 to set up a time to meet.
