Greeter volunteers will safely assist the students from the classroom to the Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile and back, assist children when picking out glasses, and help put the child at ease during the child’s time KPEM. This role is a good match for retired opticians and vision care professionals as well as for anyone who enjoys working with children and being active during their volunteer time. Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile volunteers help to remove vision issues as a major roadblock to learning - allowing every child the opportunity to reach their fullest potential.
In 2015/2016 we were able to dispense close to 600 prescription glasses for students seen on the Eye mobile.
Major Responsibilities
Pick up the students from inside the building and escort them to the Kirby Puckett Eye Mobile and back to their classroom once the child’s appointment is finished.
Communicate one-on-one with children in a friendly, calm manner to put them at ease and explain what they will be doing.

Mission Statement
Mission : The Phillips Eye Institute’s Early Youth Eyecare (E.Y.E.) Community Initiative strives to remove vision problems as a major roadblock to learning to allow all students to achieve their fullest potential.
Description
Through the Early Youth Eyecare (E.Y.E.) Community Initiative, the Phillips Eye Institute extends its mission beyond its hospital walls. E.Y.E. strives to remove vision problems as a major roadblock to learning by providing regular vision screenings and subsequent treatment services to Minneapolis and St Paul school children in Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grades. In addition to screening services, E.Y.E. conducts follow-up by working with families to identify and remove barriers to receiving treatment: offering interpreter services, transportation, and vision care for uninsured or underinsured children. E.Y.E. coordinates and funds care at no cost to the school districts or the families we serve. E.Y.E. serves over 25,000 students annually, with over 200 trained volunteers to deliver the service each school year. The success of the E.Y.E. Program has been widely recognized - having received the Minnesota Hospital Association Community Benefit Award for Small Hospitals and the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce Quality of Life Award.
