Help Hawaii Literacy with various large and small events throughout the year. Each year, we are involved in fundraisers, fairs, and smaller program events (book sales, giveaways, mini-fundraisers) and there are several ways to help. We are seeking dedicated volunteers who are familiar with fundraising events to join our major events planning committee that assists the board of directors in annual fundraisers, which would include soliciting donations, setting menus and entertainment, publicity, and creating programs, invitations and decorations. We are also seeking capable volunteers to be a leader or co-leader for smaller events that combine programs and fundraising- like teen book fairs, scrabble tournaments, and collection drives. With staff support, you would lead any of several events, or even bring your own ideas for activities or fundraisers! Each of these opportunities is a place for your creativity and ideas to shine while making a huge difference for our literacy programs that help adults and children in need.

Last, we can also always use help staffing booths at literacy-related fairs and festivals. We will train you and you will be placed with an experienced volunteer or staff member to start.

Depending on the event chosen, time commitments range from a few hours a month to several hours per week before a big event.

All teens (16+) and adults are welcome for these opportunities. Volunteers for these opportunities must have strong writing or communication skills, as they will be representing our agency publicly.
