Specific shifts needed are: Monday through Friday 8am-12pm, 12pm-4pm, 4pm-8pm
As a Day Surgery Waiting Room volunteer you are a vital link between family & friends and the status of a patient before, during and after surgery. In addition, you will escort visitors and patients, sometimes discharging patients in wheelchairs once they are ready to go home. Equally important, you'll help keep the Waiting Room area organized and assist Staff with assembling informational paperwork.
Due to the nature of the Waiting Room, you will be a big part of keeping the area calm and positive, offering encouragement and support. You absolutely must have a friendly, patient personality, and be comfortable with the ever changing pace of volunteering in the Day Surgery Waiting Room.
* Greet patients upon check in. * Serve as a liaison via telephone between Recovery Room and Nursing Unit and communicate information back to patient’s family.
* Keep those waiting as informed as information is received.
* Offer encouragement and support.
* Escort or give directions to our patients and guests.
* Keep area neat and organized.
* Assist Staff with assembly of Informational Paperwork.

Ascension Alexian Brothers Volunteer Program plays a critical role in assisting and supporting various departments within the Medical Center.
Our Volunteers
A talented and generous group of adults and students volunteer at Ascension Alexian Brothers each year and make a difference in the lives of our patients, their friends, families, and our staff. They are active in the customer service areas, provide exceptional office and clerical support, assist on nursing floors and outpatient care departments, and participate in the weekly sewing workshop where a group assembles to craft baby hats and stuffed animals for the women, infant, and emergency room units.
