Job description

The Environmental Education Center, the first of its kind at the Boys & Girls Club of Tustin. This program gives youth access to programs about animals, nature, gardening, and the environment, encouraging youth to think about issues and concepts globally and to take positive action on a local level to find solutions .We are looking for a volunteer with vetinary experience to help us look after our animals. Volunteers would be able to come in as frequently as once a week or as infrequently as once a month. Scheduling is flexible, but must occur on a weekday between 2pm-6:30pmDavid@bgctustin.org

Purpose of the position

Participate in activities and tasks related to the environment and animal care.

Responsibilities and Duties

Must be familiar and comfortable with animals. Volunteering will also include interacting with children and assisting in activities. Our room houses the following animals

1 Noble Macaw

1 Chinchilla

2 ball pythons

1 blue tongued skink

2 leopard geckos

1 bearded dragon

4 Turtles

1 Tortoise

1 hamster

1 rose hair tarantula

Qualifications

Eligible candidates are adults over 18 years old who have prior experience with young children. Must work with and cooperate with animal care supervisor. Must be dependable and enjoy working with younger children and animals.

Commitment

Monday - Friday (various times are available) 2-3 hours a day, from 8am to 7pm

Training

Two-hour orientation Volunteer coordinator and training session with animal care supervisor and volunteer coordinator
