Mission Statement
CalPREP hopes to inspire children with an idea of a college/career future and assist them in establishing critical thinking skills, study habits, and positive social behavior.
The Boys & Girls Club of Tustin is looking for dedicated role models to mentor our youth. Mentors will meet once a week at one of our clubs for an hour with their mentee between the hours of 3 and 5pm. The program is designed to educate students about going to college, and show them that they are capable of achieving their dreams. Over the course of 5 months, mentors and mentees will build a positive and impactful relationship. All mentors will receive training and ongoing support. Activities can include playing games and activities, learning and practicing new skills and hobbies, helping with homework, and setting aside time to listen and give positive advice or feedback. Mentors will assist members (mentees) in improving their academic and social skills, increase their college knowledge, and help them identify and reach their aspirations.
CalPREP Curriculum Overview:
The CalPREP curriculum is focused on assisting students in establishing positive study and work habits, while also assisting them in critical thinking skills and helping them understand the steps for getting into college/university in order to pursue a goal in a college/career future. The CalPREP curriculum overviews three ideas in initiating this goal: 1) Growth mindset 2) Habits of the mind, and 3) College/career overview.
