Rareshare.org Communications Director Needed


The Communications Director for Rareshare.org will design, develop, author and implement engaging materials for RG rare disease websites and podcasts. This position will work with the Communications and Marketing teams at Rare Genomics to streamline the social media campaigns and communications to our patient community of over 8000 members. The Communications Director will also design and publish a quarterly newsletter for Rareshare.org members and help coordinate the relaunch of Rareshare.org 2.0.



Position Responsibilities:

  • The Communications Director will also collaborate with the Scientific Project Management team to market podcasts, quarterly newsletters and scientific design templates.

  • Create metrics and manage web traffic and analyze social media campaigns accordingly to improve rare disease networking and outreach.

  • Project management along with scientific development advertising using Adwords and other tools, implementation and optimization.

  • Validating contents for accuracy and usability using support communications and ensure adherence to goals set by the scientific project management and education team

  • To find out the right place for the placement of contents in the website to develop the reachability and act as a traffic manager for the scientific web content and various scientific education events.


Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

  • Expert level writing, editing, and reviewing skills.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop creative, high-quality assessment questions and course evaluations focusing on all levels of critical thinking.

  • Ability to communicate effectively; coordinate complex activities with multiple parties; work effectively with members from diverse backgrounds.

  • Ability to research work independently; prioritize work and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to learn new software and web-based environments quickly.

  • Ability to work well in a fast paced, team environment, while still accomplishing individual tasks and goals.

  • This position requires 5-10 hours per week

Description

Rare Genomics Institute (RGI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping rare disease
patients find a diagnosis, treatment, and pathway to a cure. Through personalized research
projects, RGI provides access to world leading medical institutions and scientists to conduct
genomic sequencing, coordinates with clinicians and counselors to interpret findings, and offers an
online crowd-funding platform to deliver financial solutions. RGI also supports rare disease
advocacy by fostering an online community of rare disease patients and supporting rare disease
research through a yearly grant competition.

Since being founded in 2011, RGI has completed over 300 genetic sequencing and analysis
projects, assisted patients fund over $3.5 million worth of genomic sequencing, discovered 8
unique genetic mutations in-house, given over $2 million dollars in grants to researchers on rare
disease, and developed an online community with over 10,000 rare disease members.
Through volunteers, RGI is able to slowly push science and health care forward to meet the needs
