CASA of San Joaquin County is a non-profit program of the Child Abuse Prevention Council in San Joaquin County. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a group of volunteers (ordinary members of the community with different backgrounds and experiences) who have been screened, trained and sworn in as officers of the court in order to advocate in court, at home and at school for the very best interest of your foster youth.
Volunteers get to know the child by talking with everyone in that child's life: parents and relatives, foster parents, teachers, medical professionals, attorneys, social workers and others. They use the information they gather to inform judges and others of what the child needs and what will be the best permanent home for them.
You do not have to be a lawyer or social worker to be a volunteer. We welcome people from all walks of life. We are simply looking for people who care about children and have common sense. As a volunteer, you will be thoroughly trained and well supported by professional staff to help you through each case. No special background or education is required to become a CASA volunteer. Once accepted into the program, you will receive all necessary training in courtroom procedures, social services, the juvenile justice system and the special needs of abused and neglected children. We encourage people from all cultures and professions, and of all ethnic and educational backgrounds.
CASA San Joaquin County is going to be available Thursday, February 11, 2016 from 5pm - 6pm to meet with you at Smack Pie at 121 S School St, Lodi, CA 95240 for a one on one conversation to talk with you more about becoming a CASA volunteer.
Anyone over 21 years old interested in becoming a CASA volunteer (foster youth advocate) should reply to this post to let us know you are coming to Smack Pie at 121 S School St, Lodi, CA 95240 and a CASA staff member will meet you there to talk with you and answer all of your questions about becoming a CASA. Please feel free to bring along any else who might also be interested in learning about CASA.

Mission Statement
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of San Joaquin County. The CASA Program endeavors to ensure that abused, neglected and abandoned children who have become dependents of the San Joaquin County Court will have a safe and permanent home.
Description
CASA - A Powerful Voice in a Child's Life
CASA of San Joaquin County is currently recruiting community volunteers to serve as "eyes and ears" for the Court and provide a "voice" for a child; at home, in school and in the court room. CASA of San Joaquin County provides the screening, training and on-going support necessary to be successful advocates for the neediest of children in our County. The CASA volunteer provides continuity by staying on the case until it is permanently resolved. Volunteers are expected to have contact with their CASA child every week, attend court hearings as needed, and provide written reports to the court. The written reports include all interviews, visits, and assessments taken by the CASA in regard to recommendations based on the child’s very best interest. If you, or someone you know is interested in becoming a CASA volunteer please contact Trinidad Olivas-Newcomb at (209) 644-5319
