Mission Statement

The Oregon Natural Desert Association exists to protect, defend and restore Oregon's high desert.

Description

Our dream is to see millions of acres of beautiful and ecologically vital public lands permanently protected and home to diverse populations of wildlife. Working in partnership with more than 10,000 members and supporters, ONDA is the only group dedicated exclusively to the preservation of Oregon’s high desert.

Since its founding in 1987, ONDA has earned many successes, including the protection of Oregon’s Badlands and Spring Basin as the state’s second and third desert wilderness areas. ONDA was also instrumental in the creation of Oregon’s first desert wilderness, Steens Mountain Wilderness in 2000.

Today, ONDA remains devoted to engaging diverse voices to conserve vast tracts of public lands in areas such as Central Oregon, John Day, the Greater Hart Sheldon Landscape and the Owyhee Canyonlands. We also operate a restoration program to improve habitat for fish and wildlife, and maintain diligent efforts to enforce conservation laws to protect sensitive wildlife.
