Overview:
South Bronx United interns will assist with the SBU Soccer Scholars program which combines soccer and education to keep youth active and learning during the summer months. Interns will have the opportunity to serve as lead teachers in a summer school classroom.
When:
M-Th, 8:30am-3:30pm; F, 8:30-5; Early July - mid/late August (For those that would like to start earlier there is opportunity to be involved beginning in June)

Training:
All interns will be trained, supervised, and mentored by our Education Director. All interns will attend a two-week crash-course in teaching covering the basics of lesson plan development, curriculum building, and classroom management. Additional training and supervision will be provided by SBU’s Executive Director, a career educator and teaching consultant.
Benefits:
This internship is UNPAID. Interns will have the unique opportunity to gain classroom experience, developing their own curriculum and lessons, in a supervised setting. Throughout the summer, interns will receive in-class support and formal observations. A transportation stipend will be offered to offset subway fare costs
Positions in Detail: Interns can select which area(s) is/are of most interest to them.
Summer interns will be responsible for creating a 5-week academic enrichment course to be taught to youth ages 11-19. The math intern will be the lead instructor for math skills classes. He or she will have the opportunity to create engaging lesson plans and gain teaching experience while receiving feedback from experienced teachers. The intern will help design the curriculum, lessons, and assessments for the course. All interns will work closely with the Education Director to create an effective and engaging summer course. The interns will also serve as adult mentors, chaperoning weekly field trips.
Qualifications:
Enthusiastic and caring with a specific interest in education and youth development. The math teaching intern should have a strong background in mathematics, preferably through tutoring or teaching the subject. Should have a experience working with youth (ideally with students between the ages of 11 and 19). Teaching and classroom management experience is a plus. This internship is ideal for graduate education students looking for classroom experience or exceptional undergraduate education students considering a career in teaching. No soccer background necessary.
