Position:

Young Adult Volunteer Mentor

Major Objective:

Assist library staff in providing leadership for a group of teen volunteers as they complete thematic service projects during their summer vacation.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend training and orientation in the beginning of May
  • Attend weekly group meetings throughout June and July
  • Manage weekly attendance of teen volunteers
  • Supervise and participate in projects determined by library staff
  • Under the direction of library staff, provide direct communication to group members

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Good organizational skills
  • Dependable
  • Demonstrates enthusiasm and patience when working with learners of all ages
  • Passionate about positive youth development
  • Willingness to take direction
  • Some technology skills required

Supervision:

Volunteer Specialist and Young Adult Services staff will be responsible for the supervision of the volunteer.

Orientation and Training:

  • Library-wide - general library orientation for volunteers

  • Young Adult - orientation to the practices and procedures of Young Adult Services

Work Schedule:

Weekly for 1-2 hours

May include some special events

Commitment Required:

May 1- August 10
