Help unemployed or under-employed individuals become "job ready" as the Life Skills and Job Readiness VISTA at Christian Community Action in Lewisville, TX.

Service Description: Chisholm Trail RSVP, Inc. is a VISTA Intermediary agency working with non-profit agencies, such as Christian Community Action (CCA) in Lewisville, TX to alleviate poverty in North Texas. CCA provides families and individuals throughout Denton County Texas with services and programs that offer a hand-up not a hand-out. CCA does this through their Adult Health Center, Food Pantry and Family Assistance Services. The Life Skills and Job Readiness VISTA will build CCA’s capacity to impact job placement needs through provision of job ready individuals who are unemployed or underemployed. The VISTA will assess current job and education services, develop policies and procedures, and implement relevant and useful service changes to impact the job readiness of individuals.

Member Activities: The Life Skills and Job Readiness VISTA will cultivate a full understanding of CCA’s mission and programs to determine the agency’s needs for effective service strategy development. The VISTA will develop strategies to enhance student engagement by developing a class communication system for students, developing policies and procedures for volunteers to implement student check in and track attendance, identifying student engagement barriers and developing tools to overcome identified barriers. The VISTA will work with the Volunteer Manger to recruit volunteer classroom instructors and develop a database of instructors including all contact information to be used for class scheduling. The VISTA will review curriculum for appropriateness and that it is evidence based, consistently utilized, and effectively measuring student success. The VISTA will create training opportunities for volunteers and staff on relevant services or practices and update Standard Operating Procedures.
