PLACEMENT PURPOSE
You will be an essential part of the American Red Cross of Eastern New York’s response and recovery team. This position is responsible for safely deploying, coordinating, coaching and supervising Eastern New York disaster workers to active disaster scenes throughout our twenty-four counties. The duty officer supports disaster responders in the field and ensures accountability and standardization for the entire region’s disaster response and recovery program. This is NOT an on-scene disaster response position, and can be done from the comfort of volunteers’ homes. Duty officers are not allowed to be on call for a local disaster action team at the same time they are on for a duty officer shift as they are responsible for their duty officer role across twenty four county regions. When larger disasters strike in Eastern New York’s region, the duty officer will help the local disaster team identify material and human resource gaps and communicate with the on call disaster supervisor as to what the gaps are and how to proceed in delivering Disaster Services to the affected community.
