Project Manager - ProjectGerizim
LittleDrops Orphanage Fund is posting for a volunteer Project Manager to oversee one of our projects in Nyahururu, Laikipia County, Kenya. ProjectGerizim is an elementary school campus where orphans will be provided with safe shelter, food/nutrition and quality education. The school is open to students in the surrounding community.
This project is about more than just a building but also including programs that will assist each child with developmental support such as basic life skills, technology skills, and counselling to reach their full potential, and sustain themselves in the future. When complete the campus will enable over 600 children to attend. The children will come from 5 LittleDrops Funded homes in Kenya and approximately 300 children from the surrounding community.
There is more information about this project at www.ProjectGerizim.org
The Project Manager will coordinate with a co-project manager to complete the following aspects of the project:
- Creating workable project phases with associated tasks broken down.
- Maximizing results in the most cost effective way possible.
- Managing volunteers to keep them motivated to meet project timelines.
- Run meetings, manage project tasks and people using BaseCamp (SharePoint Site).
- Develop a close relationship with volunteers on the ground in Kenya to manage the international tasks and timelines.
- Work closely with the Grants team to get financing for this project.
Steps we have taken:
- Securing the land - We have 7 acres of land in a desirable area in close proximity to electricity.
- Fundraising - We have raised about $20,o00 so far!
- Surveyor/Architect - We have had a surveyor evaluate the site and architect create the base plan for site as well as the layout of the grounds.
- Planning - We have developed a high-level plan of deliverables per project phase that balances deliverables with keeping donors motivated to continue to assist.
- Producing results - We are actively working to get these kids fresh water by digging the borehole which is one of the Phase 1 deliverables.
Wish List:
The most important quality we are looking for is a highly motivated and experienced project manager who believes in what we are doing and has the passion, commitment and energy to push this project forward.
- Beyond that experience with the Grant process and International Project Management experience would be ideal.
