Portico Porch Logo

The Portico is a downtown Tampa gathering space where people come together for conversation, connection and community change.

We are seeking to create a diverse group of team members with a range of skills and expertise to collaborate in decision making and participate in community development, event planning, educational program development, volunteer recruiting, and workshop facilitation.

The Portico is a "front porch" for spiritual people who would not gather at a traditional church. The intentional Christian community offers ways to be involved and serve, including an events team, a network of small groups, recovery groups, documentary nights, potluck Porch Parties, service days in the community and three weekly meditation times.

Volunteering with The Portico is a great way to make an impact in your community, gain experience in a variety of areas and meet new friends. The Portico Events Team invites you to learn more about volunteer opportunities on February 11, 2016 from 6:30-8 pm. Anyone who loves downtown Tampa-- community members, students, business owners -- is invited to learn more about ways to get involved.

Serving on The Portico Events Team offers many personal benefits and opportunities:

  • Personal Spiritual Growth
  • Professional development in the non-profit sector
  • Leadership development
  • Making a positive impact in the downtown Tampa community
  • Solicitation training and hands on experience
  • Expansion of personal and professional networks.

Please join us to learn more. Call 813.254.5139 for more details.

Below is a list of upcoming events.

Sunday, January 24- Porch Party @ 5:30 p.m.

This event is a relaxed gathering of community friends, guests and neighbors! This month’s theme is Gasparilla.

You're encouraged to bring your favorite "pirate island" dish (i.e. jerk chicken, plantains, beans and rice, etc.).

Our Porch Parties are community potlucks. A starter selection of beverages and a main dish will be provided to get things going. Bring your own dish, homemade or store-bought. Anything goes!

Bring a friend, bring a dish, bring an appetite for good food and conversation. All are welcome!

Thursday, January 28 - Doc Night @ 6:30 p.m.

Doc Nights enable a small audience to engage and learn about important social issues that intersect with faith at Doc Nights. After viewing a documentary film, there is an optional discussion and reflection. This month’s feature film addresses the issue of human trafficking in Tampa Bay. For more info visit the FB event page.

Thursday, February 4 - "In The Blood" @ Stageworks Theatre @ 8:00 p.m.

The Portico will host a Preview Night at Stageworks Theatre to raise funds and awareness around the issue of homelessness. In this modern day riff on The Scarlet Letter, Hester La Negrita, a homeless mother of five, lives with her kids on the tough streets of the inner city. With proceeds from the preview night for Stageworks’ "In The Blood," The Portico will host dedicated space for Love, INC, an emerging nonprofit group with a mission to mobilize and coordinate local churches and agencies to work together to help homeless and at-risk individuals in our community.

You are welcome to join us for the dedication of the Homeless Jesus Sculpture at noon on Ash Wednesday, Feb. 10, 2016, at The Portico, 1001 N. Florida Ave. The sculpture will be installed on the south end of The Portico breezeway, facing Tyler Street. Following the dedication, you are invited to a 12:30 p.m. Ash Wednesday service in the historic, restored The Portico Chapel. The Homeless Jesus sculpture will provide ongoing witness to both the issue of homelessness in our community and the presence of Jesus among us.
