Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center

Purpose:

Guests visit Audubon Arizona daily for a variety of reasons. Interpretive Guides will assist guests with questions and trail information, maintaining Audubon facilities and grounds, and assist in various areas across Audubon.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide informal interpretive services for the general public focusing on native and migratory birds, native insects, flora and fauna of Audubon Arizona, and the building structure
  • Greet visitors and provide any information
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the facility
  • Assist with administrative duties or other projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Ability to interact in a pleasant and knowledgeable manner and demonstrate good public speaking ability
  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time, have good mobility, and work at a fast pace
  • Ability to work in varying weather conditions
  • Must become familiar with animal, insect, flora, and fauna of Audubon Arizona

To connect people with nature using science, education and advocacy to protect Arizona's birds, other wildlife, and their habitats.

Description

The Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center is a nature center in the heart of the City of Phoenix's Rio Salado Habitat Restoration Area, a 600-acre park along the historic Salt River. Located less than two miles from downtown Phoenix, the Center is a gateway to a lush Sonoran riparian habitat used by over 200 species of birds and other wildlife.

The free admission Center offers interactive exhibits, an interpretive loop trail, connections to the Rio Salado Habitat's sixteen miles of hiking and riding trails and a variety of programs, including beginning birding classes and bird walks, school field trip programs and more. Designed by Weddle Gilmore Architects, the Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center is a green building and is expected to be LEED certified. The Center's sustainable features include a photovoltaic system, a waste water recycling system, low water use fixtures, pervious surfaces and bioswales to capture rain and run-off water and energy efficient mechanical and electrical systems.

The Nina Mason Pulliam Rio Salado Audubon Center is the headquarters of the Arizona state office of the National Audubon Society.
