RESULTS Charleston

RESULTS is a movement of passionate, committed everyday people. Together we use our voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to global poverty. We're starting a RESULTS group in Charleston to tackle pressing issues of global poverty and are seeking passionate volunteer advocates to join our movement.

Volunteers receive training, support, and inspiration to become skilled advocates. Together, we'll learn to effectively advise policy makers, guiding them towards decisions that improve access to health, education, and economic opportunity for families across the world.

Promoting Solutions to Global Poverty

For the first time in history we have all of the resources needed to end extreme poverty around the globe. There is no reason for any child to die from hunger or miss out on their opportunity to go to school.

The past 25 years have seen tremendous improvements in global poverty. Preventable child deaths have been cut half, millions more girls & boys in low-income countries are going to school, and we are on the path to ending AIDS. But there is still more work to do! RESULTS has played an important role in these successes through our advocacy.

By working together, we can become the greatest generation on child survival, effectively ending the preventable deaths of moms and kids within our generation and making sure all kids, no matter where they are born, have a chance to learn and go to school. But it will take passionate community members like you working together and calling for action to make this happen.

What RESULTS Advocates Do

Advocates across the country call on our members of Congress to be champions on the issues facing families across the world. As an advocate, you can educate and inspire your members of Congress by:

1. Meeting face to face with your member of Congress

2. Communicating with congressional offices in South Carolina and Washington, DC

3. Writing powerful media about pressing global issues and opportunities to make a difference

4. Educating the community and calling others into action

If you're passionate about global issues and want to join a movement of like-minded citizens working together to make a difference, we'd love to work with you in Charleston and train you to become a powerful advocate.

Mission Statement

RESULTS is a movement of passionate, committed everyday people. Together they use their voices to influence political decisions that will bring an end to poverty. Volunteers receive training, support, and inspiration to become skilled advocates. In time, volunteers learn to effectively advise policy makers, guiding them towards decisions that improve access to education, health, and economic opportunity. With every hour of their time, volunteers multiply their impact through the enormous power of advocacy -- whether it’s helping change policy to support millions of families putting food on the table or helping raise billions of dollars for the world’s most vulnerable children. Backed by the in-depth research and legislative expertise of staff, RESULTS advocates realize the incredible power they possess to use their voices to change the world.

Description

For over 40 years, RESULTS and RESULTS Educational Fund have been shining light on critical, effective solutions to poverty. By combining the powerful voices of civic advocates with research and oversight of U.S. anti-poverty efforts at home and abroad, RESULTS has been changing government priorities and people’s lives.

"I saw RESULTS on VolunteerMatch, but I wasn’t sure what advocacy was. Before that, I wasn’t really aware of the way different government policies impacted me. But RESULTS gave me a whole new perspective. I learned that if you want change, first you need to see what members of Congress are doing and build connections." - Yaseer Khanani

"I became an advocate because I wanted to be more involved in an organization that strives to make positive change. I really appreciate how genuine and dedicated everyone is to the RESULTS mission." - Sunjay Menon

"At RESULTS, we advocate for the issues that are close to my heart, like global health, education, and poverty eradication. I get to talk about issues that I witness throughout my professional and personal life. I can effect change by raising my voice." - Shabina Hussein
