Changing Worlds is seeking early career teaching artists in visual art to serve as volunteer teaching assistants for visual arts programs in three CPS elementary schools. This posting is for our Mural Arts program at Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy for Social Justice. She/he will work closely with a Changing Worlds’ teaching artist for the remainder of the school year. Changing Worlds is looking for volunteer assistants to support lead teaching artists in the classroom. Responsibilities include but are not limited to working with students in groups or one on one, supporting the lead teaching artist with demonstrations and critique sessions, and assisting with set-up and clean-up. Assistantships begin in mid-February and complete in late May or early June, depending upon the school schedule. Specific residency information is listed below.

Responsibilities:
- Support the ongoing development of studio practice for elementary students, ages 8-14
- Assist the lead teaching artist in the planning and implementation of daily curriculum materials for elementary students
- Work with students in one on one coaching to encourage their creativity and self-expression
- Assist with classroom behavior management
- Support the visibility of the program by creating displays of finished art work and/or culminating performances as directed
- Be mentored by the lead teaching artist on the development of programming for elementary students
Requirements:
- Punctuality
- Comfortable working with large groups of students
- Comfortable working with diverse groups of students
- Responsive to questions and able to be a receptive mentor and leader for young people ages 6- 14.
- Prior experience with youth is a plus but not mandatory
- Transportation to/from site is the responsibility of the intern
