ORGANIZATION: Know How Network - Crisis Center

Local education partner agency is seeking volunteers to lead its hands-on financial literacy and workforce readiness programs in area classrooms. Volunteers go through one-hour training with staff, scheduled one-on-one or with other RSVP volunteers. Training includes tips and resources specific to classroom management and engagement techniques. Each classroom commitment is with the same group of students either one hour a week over 5-6 weeks or for a single half day. All necessary materials and a step-by-step teaching guide are provided to volunteers ahead of their first classroom visit. Activities include games, worksheets and workbooks, and individual/partner/small group work. Opportunities vary between grades K-8 at schools between Lamorinda, Walnut Creek, Clayton, Concord, Martinez, and Pleasant Hill. Volunteers are welcome to serve more than one classroom and have the option to partner with a spouse or other RSVP member. Opportunities will always be on a weekday occurring between 8am-3pm and usually come with at least 30 days’ notice. Personal transportation required to/from school sites. Comfort level interacting with 20-30 school aged students and enthusiasm for being in a classroom preferred; background in finance not needed.
