Volunteers assist with a variety of activities related to the Thrift Store, depending on their interests and availability, as well as their individual capabilities. In general, volunteers help to sort through the merchandise that has been donated, price merchandise according to instructions given, place items on racks or shelves, and check people out at the register.

Volunteers are also needed to help load and unload items that people have donated and/or bought and to assist in fixing up items that may need something minor done in order to maximize its salability.

Since there are so many different activities involved in the Thrift Shop, we are generally able to tailor volunteers’ duties to match the interests of the volunteers and what they feel comfortable doing. Whether you have just a few hours, or several days a week available

This is a fun job and a great opportunity to meet others while making a difference in the lives of seniors. All proceeds from the Thrift Store are used to provide services to seniors here in our community!

Mission Statement

NU-HOPE Elder Care Services' mission is to promote the physical, emotional, and economic well-being of seniors through leadership, advocacy, education, and the provision of services.

Description

NU-HOPE Elder Care Services (NU-HOPE) is a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of seniors, supporting their independence and dignity, and reducing unnecessary or premature nursing home placement. We provide services (subsidized and private pay) to seniors (age 60+) residing in Highlands and Hardee County, Florida, as well as providing support, education, and training to caregivers. Additionally, we advocate for senior rights and services and provide leadership, expertise, and guidance to organizations throughout our community.

While our services are designed specifically for seniors, we realize that our aging services impact far more members of the community. Spouses, family membes, employers, government agencies, and local charities are all affected by the stress of caring for our aging population. We know that meeting the needs of seniors benefits far more than just those who directly receive the services. Experience shows that supporting seniors strengthens the entire community.
