Job Title:

Pet Food Bank Volunteer

Supervisor:

Warehouse Manager

Duties May Include:

  • Assisting with intake of donated pet food and supplies and inventory management
  • Weighing and re-bagging pet food into 5-pound bags (more manageable for clients and easier for PALNV to track)
  • Labeling bags accurately
  • Storing pet food bags on the appropriate shelves
  • Using Pick Sheets to prepare pet food for delivery to clients
  • Cleaning and organizing the food bank
  • Pick-up and delivery of pet food from stores and other local animal organizations

Qualifications:

  • Willingness to remain flexible to meet current needs as they arise
  • Genuine concern for the welfare of animals that is consistent with the philosophy of PALNV
  • Ability to work closely with PALNV staff and other volunteers
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs. and willingness to communicate any physical limitations

Training:

  • Volunteer Orientation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of PALNV’s Volunteer Manual
  • On the job training

Worksite:

PALNV office and warehouse

Suggested Work Shifts:

  • Minimum 4 hours per month
  • Regular schedule of 3 or more hours per week desired

Importance of the Job:

The pet food bank is the core of PALNV’s Pets-In-Need Program and food bank volunteers serve as the main force in preparing the pet food and supplies that clients need every month. This means that volunteers in the pet food bank are absolutely vital to PALNV operations and success, as well as to the pets and people that we serve.

Description

PALNV is a nonprofit organization focused on helping make the world around us a better, happier place for the animals that do not have homes. PALNV partners with The Animal Foundation, TNR Trappers and Colony Feeders to take in cats facing homelessness on the streets and house them in our Rescued Treasures Cat Cafe. Once they are at our cafe, our staff and fosters care for the cats and kittens, working with them to get ready for adoption. They stay with us until they find their forever homes and as our cats are adopted, we reach out to our partners to bring us more cats and kittens thus being a part of the solution to saving our community cats.

PALNV is the Nevada Affiliate for Rescue Bank, a program of GreaterGood.org. We work with 501c3 rescues, feral cat organizations and pet food pantries to provide pet food which helps the organizations so they can use their dollars for medical care, adoptions and supplies.

PALNV has been in business since 1993. The organization started in Victorville, CA and moved their operations to Las Vegas in 2014. We are now located on N Rancho Drive near W Craig Road.

Volunteers are vital to our operations here at PALNV. We continually seek to expand our programs with volunteer support. As a nonprofit organization, we rely on donations and volunteer efforts to help us achieve our goals and saving our communities at risk cats.
