The Food Pantry Assistant will volunteer at Virginia Beach Community Development Corporation’s (VBCDC) main office working directly with neighbors utilizing the food pantry.

Food Pantry Assistant Job Duties:

• Ensuring neighbors sign in and out of the corporate office when coming to request food from the food pantry.
• Requesting neighbors to complete the food pantry intake sheet. - Processing and packaging requested orders for neighbors.
• Handing out completed orders to neighbors.
• Updating the inventory based on goods distribution after each neighbor’s visit.
• Informing the Food Pantry Manager when food products are low.
• Maintaining the food pantry key in a secure location. - Ensuring the food pantry is locked at all times when not in use.
• Sorting, organizing, and stocking food products in the food pantry accordingly to likeness.
• Checking the food items for secure packaging, sealing, and food quality dates.
• Participating in training as needed- may include FOODSAFE, USDA, etc.
• Maintaining a log of disposed food items that expired.
• Assisting the Food Pantry Manager as needed.
• Cleaning the food pantry after each shift to maintain order and cleanliness.
• Communicating concerns regarding neighbors or the food pantry to the Food Pantry Manger and Senior Neighbor Advocate.
• Assisting the Food Pantry Manager with monthly reporting requested information as needed.

Food Pantry Assistant Required Skills/Education: This position requires the volunteer to have computer Skills to include Excel, customer service experience, and the ability to lift up to 25 pounds.

Time Commitment: 2-4 hours/week for approximately 6 months
