ORGANIZATION: KITSAP COUNTY RSVP

The Donation Pick-up Driver is a volunteer position responsible for picking up donations for the Habitat Store, screening materials for donation and, when necessary, leading a crew. The volunteer must be willing to adhere to and express the mission of Habitat for Humanity and maintain a Christian working atmosphere.

Detailed instructions are given at each new assignment. As the volunteers become familiar with procedures, more unsupervised judgement and decision making duties are given. All work is subject to review as needed by the Store Manager. Adherence to the Habitat for Humanity of Kitsap County policies and procedures is required.

Duties:

  • Pick up store material donations at homes, businesses, or other sites throughout Kitsap County using store truck or their own vehicle.
  • Screen donations for usability using established criteria
  • Load and unload truck
  • Establish a donation pick-up schedule. Organize and schedule pick-ups by area. Follow directions and read maps to find locations.
  • Provide supervision to assistant(s) as necessary
  • Keep up to date on procedures
  • Greet customers, answer questions and provide assistance as needed
  • As needed, answer telephone and provide store information, directions, etc. to callers
  • Keep truck and work areas clean, safe and orderly
  • regularly communicate with Store Manager regarding donation/pick-up issues and problems. Recommend new/better methods of completing assigned tasks as needed.

This position requires that the volunteer be available to work, on occasion, outside of normal working hours. The majority of work involves driving a truck and the loading and unloading of materials. The ability to safely lift heavy or oversized items up to 75 pounds, bend, stand, squat, and climb in/out of a truck is required.

The position requires a good driving record, strong customer service and interpersonal skills and be dedicated to the mission and goals of Kitsap Habitat for Humanity.

RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
