About LOS CERRITOS WETLANDS LAND TR FOR LONG BEACH & SEAL BEACH

Location:

235 LOMA AVE, LONG BEACH, CA 90803, US

Mission Statement

Los Cerritos Wetlands are a nationally and regionally significant natural area that historically covered 2400 acres in Los Angeles and Orange counties. Currently, approximately 500 acres of habitat remain undeveloped in the wetlands complex. The Los Cerritos Wetlands Land Trust (Land Trust) was incorporated in 2001 by dedicated individuals who grasped the vital importance of Los Cerritos Wetlands (LCW) and the urgency of restoring what remained of this unique estuary. The Land Trust is committed to: 1) Facilitating the purchase of privately owned properties in Los Cerritos Wetlands, 2) Reconnecting and restoring this remnant estuary ecosystem, 3) Providing an educational setting for urbanized humans to discover the wonders of Southern California wetlands, and 4) Building a culture of public stewardship for this precious resource before it is gone forever.

Description

Volunteers are essential to the restoration of this precious resource in the highly urbanized Long Beach environment. Volunteers have the opportunity to plant native species, propagate plants, and eradicate invasive weeds to help restore habitat for rare and endangered species such as the Belding's savannah sparrow. We need you!
