We are in need of volunteers to teach 30-45 minute classes Monday-Wednesday between the hours of 10:00am-4:00pm, in the areas of independent living skills, basic computer skills, music and dancing, arts and crafts or something you are passionate about and would love to teach others. Mission Statement

California Community Opportunities (CCO) is on a mission to renew lives and strengthen abilities of adults with disabilities. Unique across California and beyond, CCO is committed to authentic teaching in all facets of individuals’ lives. CCO’s unique Family Teaching Model provides ongoing learning experiences and skill building opportunities in naturally occurring settings at home and in the community. Far more than a "care" program, CCO ensures that individuals who are differently abled or significantly disabled have their own home, as well as ongoing opportunities to learn; to grow; to interact with friends, family, and community; and to build a life to their fullest potential.

Description

Recognizing a tremendous need for quality programs that foster learning and growth among people with disabilities, CCO created and refined CommUniversity, a highly unique day services model. Rather than settle for a place for individuals to spend their days and just "something for them to do", we began with the understanding that people deserve to engage in their lives and their communities to the fullest potential, regardless of physiological limitations. We have been piloting this individualized model for more than two years with students who also live in our Family Teaching Model homes (30 people), with extraordinary results. We have seen and measured significant growth among people with widely diverse disabilities.
