ORGANIZATION: Red Poppy Art House

  • 9 people are interested

Much of the Red Poppy Art House’s work centers on a dynamic performance program that presents over 140 performances annually, spanning disciplines from traditional to contemporary forms. These events are produced by a cohort of arts-presenting hosts, half of whom are in training as part of the Poppy’s Professional Development Track and Internship Programs.

The Poppy is currently seeking enthusiastic individuals to serve as a PR/Social Media Intern. Selected candidates will gain experience in artist coordination, public relations, social media, web management, and event management. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone educated in the arts looking for hands-on experience to build their practical skill set applicable to many different fields. Interns will work closely with the Director of Communications.

Responsibilities:

  • Artist coordination: Assist with artist communications and the coordination of artist content.
  • Media relations: Develop and submit press releases and calendar listings. Conduct research on expanding and diversifying our list of press contacts.
  • Web management: Create and manage Facebook events. Post upcoming events to online calendar listings. Log and track status of PR assignments.
  • Social media presence/outreach: Regularly develop content for Facebook, Twitter and other social media platforms to engage and grow new audiences.
  • Staff meetings: Interns are required to attend weekly operations meetings.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Background or interest in the arts, public relations/marketing, media, event management, or related fields.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Keen attention to detail when proofreading, copy editing, and fact checking.
  • Regular access to internet/email and a familiarity with Google Apps.
Consistency in meeting deadlines and following up on emails.
Interest in becoming a part of a vibrant community of artists, arts professionals, cultural activists, and volunteers.
Commitment of 8-12 hours per week (with flexibility) over a 6-9-month period. Intern must work on-site at least once a week.

Perks:

  • Free attendance for all (140) annual performances at the Red Poppy Art House, as well as a selection of performances by other arts presenting organizations which offer a limited number of comps.
  • Access to the Red Poppy’s professional development track speaker series featuring artists, arts leaders, community organizers and philanthropic representatives that span the Bay Area Arts ecology and beyond.

HOW TO APPLY:

Please send a resume, cover letter, and your availability to jen@redpoppyarthouse.org. Be sure to include "PR/Social Media Internship" and your name in the subject line of your email.

Description

The Red Poppy Art House is a working artist studio, gallery, classroom, and performance space. We are dedicated to providing an accessible and intimate experience of the arts. We are convinced that the joy and power of the arts lay in the creative process much more than in the creative product. We are committed to bringing that process into the public light. The Art House hosts interdisciplinary arts events, collaborative exhibitions, workshops, small performances, and private parties. When it comes to an intimate experience of the arts the Red Poppy Art House is perhaps one of the most unique venues in the city. This little place (approx. 650 sq. ft.) on the corner of Folsom Street and 23rd Street in San Francisco has become a thriving center for interdisciplinary activity.
