Site of Pathways of Peace

The National Park Service would like to invite you to join in the celebrations this holiday season. President’s Park needs willing individuals, like you, to volunteer, brave the cold weather, and spread a bit of good cheer at the Pathway of Peace site.

The Pathway of Peace is a long standing tradition extending back to 1954. This month-long event offers many forms of holiday entertainment to the public. People from all over the world come to see the fifty-six trees - one for every U.S. state, territory and the District of Columbia - that surround the National Christmas Tree. Each tree is decorated with one-of-a-kind ornaments. American artists and youth give their time and talents to design and create the ornaments, which symbolize our history, heritage and culture.

The Pathway of Peace is open to the public from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm during the month of December. Festivities begin a few days after the December 3rd National Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony. We need organizations to volunteer from 3:00 pm to 10:00 pm during weekdays and from 12:00 pm to 10:00 pm during weekends. Most shifts are four hours long.

Volunteers will assist President’s Park staff with answering visitor questions and conducting basic crowd control. We expect to draw large crowds this year and it will be very beneficial for volunteers to help rangers patrol the event site. Your help will contribute to a more cheerful holiday experience for everyone.

Volunteers will also assist the rangers and Secret Service/Park Police in closing the tree site for security reasons (e.g. movement of the President). Volunteers will be needed to communicate this unexpected change with the visitors.
