LEAP is hosting a fundraiser at Barnes & Noble to help raise money for our scholarship fund to send promising students to senior high school and our literacy and leadership camp in Ghana. We will be wrapping gifts, making bookmarks and face painiting with children. We could extra help from 9:00am-3:30pm. If you are looking for a fun way to voulnteer during the Thanksgiving season or want to chat about our girls' empowerment, education stability, and international stability work, please join us. LEAP's mission is to provide innovative literacy education, school improvement, and youth development programming to expand educational opportunities and strengthen developing communities.
Description
The Literacy Empowerment Action Project is a 501(c)(3) non-profit based in Washington, DC. The majority our work is in the Timber Nkwanta, Konko village located in the eastern region of Ghana. We believe that literacy is the cornerstone to all learning. Increasing literacy rates assists in overcoming economic, social and health barriers that prevent youth from fulfilling their potential. We work toward improving literacy standards in developing communities by providing:
- Books
- Literacy tools and resources for students
- Teacher trainings and teaching tools
- Technology and alternatives approaches to learnings
- Scholarships for secondary school education
- Incorporating leadership development and girls empowerment programming
