About Ready, Set, Read!

Location:

1000 N. Alameda St. #240, Los Angeles, CA 90012, US

Mission Statement

Ready, Set, Read! partners with preschools in underserved communities throughout Los Angeles to teach parents how to read aloud to their young children. In our one hour workshop, parents learn effective techniques to make book sharing fun and engaging. By involving parents in their children's literacy development, we pave the way for future reading and educational success. In our idea of a perfect world, all young children would have the pleasure ofspending time in their parent's lap, sharing a story.

Description

Ready, Set, Read! provides instructional bilingual workshops and classroom lending libraries to help underserved parents read to their kids. Focusing on pre-kindergarten children, our programs stress the importance of a parent's role in a child's literacy development, ongoing academic success, and overall self-confidence.

Since 2000, through the donations and hard work of generous donors, volunteers and motivated educators, we have taught over 23,500 parents to read with their children more often and effectively, given each of those parents a book to take home and read to their child, and distributed over 160 classroom lending libraries.
