Where else can cleaning help save a life?

Without clean living areas, senior and special needs cats can't stay healthy. You can help them and us with a few simple cleaning skills! Please read the entire post before responding.

We need someone who doesn't mind cleaning an indoor catio area and a large dedicated cat room. It's all the same stuff you do for one kitty at home, such as scooping litter, cleaning cat trees (lots of fur to remove), and the housework for the kitty rooms, sweeping, mopping, dusting, washing food dishes, and cleaning pet fountains. Not all of it is required every week. Of course, you get to pet and play with some cats too!

Without volunteers, we have less time to raise funds, communicate with donors, and provide daily medical care to senior and special needs kitties. Catnip Casa is a foster home based, all volunteer organization. We do not have a public shelter.

Our insurance requires volunteers to be over 18. The work takes place in a private foster home, and we welcome diversity in our volunteers.

Volunteer hours for this opportunity are Wednesday, or Saturday afternoon from 1-4 pm. One afternoon each week or one afternoon every other week would be great. A full 3-hour block of time to get the work done is necessary, but not all tasks need to be done each time.

You must be able to lift, bend, and work in small areas. Substantial bending, reaching, and kneeling are involved since we care for 10 kitties at the main foster home. A dog shares the household too. Please, be good at following instructions, fluent in English, and willing to do whatever is required.

We offer a brief orientation session and walk-thru before you decide on whether you want to accept this opportunity. Someone is always available to answer questions, and we provide all the cleaning supplies. You may get a lot of four-legged help from some of the braver kitties.

Sometimes, we may also ask you to wear a mask to protect the cats and the caregivers. Please be flexible about that requirement. We don't want to share illness.

Catnip Casa is foster-home-based and all volunteer. The work takes place at the intake foster home. So, we do not have a way to accommodate groups, but we will consider two people who want to volunteer together as a team or who want to work alternate weeks/days to split the work.

Mission Statement

Description

Catnip Casa Cat Refuge provides narrowly focused services for senior and special needs cats that require extensive rehab or lifelong pawspice care due to age, disease, or disabilities, that does not allow them to remain in their home or community. Of course, we occasionally end up with animals that need adoption too, when an animal is well enough to find a forever family.

We also educate owners, caregivers, professionals, and the public, about caring for pets with challenges caused by age, disease, disabilities, or terminal illness. We strive to develop a network of persons, services, foster homes, and resources that benefit the community.

Catnip Casa mentors trappers and actively supports TNR (trap/neuter/release) for community cats.
