Responsibilities include both demand management and inventory planning of specific product lines. The planner ensures an adequate supply of product to service customer needs while minimizing working inventory by assessing demand activity. The planner will reflect demand changes in our planning systems to ensure high accuracy of forecast needs and ensure accuracy in inventory records, item usage history, and forecasting files.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

    • On a cyclic basis, ensures timely placement of external order with Mercy Ships’ international depots and local agents to support the supply chain parameters that enables timely delivery of the right products, material and supplies.

    • Responsible for end-to-end planning of inventory from ordering to customer receipt on board the vessel.

    • Develop inventory management plans to support annual projects and events.

    • Conduct root cause analysis when necessary.

    • Support internal customer service inquiries.

    • Participate in after-hours conference calls as required.

    • Identify current and potential product shortages, develop and execute recovery, advise interested parties of status and recovery plans.

    • Maintain and update master files [items, vendors, etc].

    • Constant interaction with Supply Manager and assessment of demand requirements. Reflect changes in SKU level forecasts.

    • Coordinate SKU level unit forecasts with agreed to Product Category expectations.

    • Achieve consensus on operating plans and inventory goals.

    • Provide reports and requested information to management as needed.

    • Develop systems and procedures required to meet service and inventory turn objectives

    • Assist Inventory controller and supply team in physically unloading containers / receiving supplies.

    • Due to the ever changing staffing levels and field service rotations, all staff may be re-assigned to temporarily fill roles in other departments in a time of need up to and including the Supply Managers position.

    • Other duties as assigned.

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

    • Diploma in Supply Chain or equivalent education and experience.
    • Good understanding of Supply Chain Metrics
    • Able to lift 10kg regularly and 25 kg occasionally as part of supply support work.
    • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills.
    • Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with all levels of the organization.
    • Proficiency in MS Office suite. Strong skills in Microsoft Excel.
    • Supportive of Mercy Ships mission, vision.
    • Commitment to live out and model Mercy Ships core values.
    • Able to live in and contribute to community life on a Mercy Ship.
    • Understand and apply servant leadership, work collaboratively, demonstrate accountability.
    • International Driver’s License required (Purchase prior to travel if necessary)
    • Has successfully completed Basic Safety Training in accordance with STCW A-VI/1-1 to 1-4.

The requirements listed below are representative of the education and / or experience required.

    • 1 - 3 years’ experience in product planning and/ or supply chain.
    • Successful completion of Mercy Ships On Boarding program required.
    • Willingness to cooperate and accept added responsibilities.
    • Experience in process improvement initiatives
    • Team player, experience in working in a multi-cultural organization
    • Conversant in French preferred.
