ORGANIZATION: The Shyann Kindness Project

Volunteers are needed to sort, pack, label, and organize books for distribution to registered schools and programs serving children from low-income families. Volunteers can sign up for 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. shifts. Volunteers must register for opportunity at http://www.firstbook.org/get-involved/volunteer/352. Mission Statement

To serve and put smiles on the faces of underprivileged, at-risk, and medically fragile children by providing fun and needed gifts while promoting and teaching kindness and acceptance of all people.

Description

Kindness Gift Giving Events are scheduled twice per month, and include giving out kindness gift packages of toys, along with books, backpacks, school supplies, dental items, snacks and other misc. items. The events take place at low-income schools, homeless feeding programs, hospital emergency rooms and clinics, shelters for women and children, clinics for children with special needs, and other venues where children are living with some type of stressful situation. Due to the venues where the events take place, volunteer opportunities occur mostly on weekdays.

  • Must be at least 18
  • 4 hour shift
  • Volunteers must be able to stand for their entire shift and lift 10 to 30 pound boxes of books.
