Are you looking for an academically challenging and socially dynamic position that helps change entire communities? Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta (http://www.advancingjustice-atlanta.org) is looking for individuals with excellent research and writing skills, as well as an affinity for grassroots outreach work to join us as interns.

Tentative Duties: In line with our mission points, interns will research local and regional policies or the impact of federal legislation at the local level. Research may also involve data analysis, including collection of surveys. The research will be used to create talking points, articles, and white papers.

Interns may also assist with grassroots voter registration, door to door canvassing, phone banking and other forms of engagement. Interns will spend time working out in the 'field,’ hours being typically late afternoon-early evening on weekdays (3 pm to 7 pm) and on weekends (Saturdays from 8 to noon; some Sundays).

Interns chosen with language skills will principally assist with community outreach efforts to educate Asian Americans on critical legal issues in our region and to participate in coalition meetings and seminars. Light translation and administrative duties including filing and data entry may also be required.

Mission Statement

Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta’s mission is to protect and promote the civil, social and economic rights of Asian immigrants and refugees ("Asian Americans") in Georgia and the Southeast through public policy, legal education, community organizing and leadership development. Our vision is a social movement where individuals are fully empowered, active in civic life, and working together to promote equity and fair treatment for all.

Description

Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta (formerly Asian American Legal Advocacy Center or AALAC) is the first non-profit law center dedicated to Asian immigrants and refugees ("Asian Americans") in the Southeast. Our goal is to engage, educate and empower under-represented Asian Americans to greater civic participation. We are one of five independent organizations that make up the national Asian Americans Advancing Justice. Together with our affiliates in Chicago, DC, Los Angeles and San Francisco, we bring more than 100 years of collective experience in addressing the civil rights issues faced by Asian Americans and other vulnerable and underserved communities. Advancing Justice Atlanta principally serves the growing Asian American population in Georgia regardless of age, sexual orientation, gender, class, disability or language ability. While much of our outreach is geared towards Asian Americans, we promote equity and fairness for all individuals. On an annual basis, our work reaches approximately 10,000 directly and many more through extensive media coverage. Our work is broadly disseminated and shared outside our community and region.
