Help enhance the library's services to Placer County Jail inmates in both the Auburn and South Placer (Roseville) Jails. Volunteer to be a tutor inside the jail and see how rewarding the experience can be. The goal of the jail tutoring program is to create an opportunity for inmates to improve their reading, writing, and basic math skills by working one-on-one with a tutor.
Responsibilities:
Tutor one inmate 1-2 times each week for 1.5 hour sessions in Placer County Jail’s safe, secure, and private setting
Submit monthly time logs
Coordinate with literacy staff
Qualifications:
Must be able to read, write, and speak English proficiently and clearly
Possess patience, flexibility, and excellent oral communication skills
Fingerprint clearance is required
Age 18 or older
Bilingual is a plus, but not required
Training Provided:
Tutor Training- 3 hours
County Jail Training - 1.5 hours
All materials provided free of charge
Individual assistance from literacy staff is available
