ORGANIZATION: Hospice of the Chesapeake

Position Summary

To provide a feeling of caring, warmth, and understanding for Hospice of the Chesapeake patients and their families

Responsibilites & Functions

* Contact families/patients via telephone on a weekly/or periodic basis
* Record any notes/needs onto the Caring Callers log sheet and return to Volunteer Supervisor
* Coordinate schedule of participation with supervisor, as well as schedule changes
* Complete all required documentation annually (HIPAA/Patient Rights/PPD/Flu Shot)
* Notify onsite supervisor immediately to report: incidents, uncontrolled pain, breathing problems, falls or any other concerns

Relationships

Establish and maintain good rapport with Hospice of the Chesapeake staff, volunteers, patients, and their families
Supervised by: Volunteer Services Coordinator

Minimum Position Qualifications

Minimum education: Hospice of the Chesapeake Administrative Training
Required licensure or certification: None
Minimum experience: None required
Skills required: Dependability, flexibility, good listener, open-minded and non-judgmental, and the ability to remain calm under stressful conditions
Physical demands: None
Equipment needed: None
Working conditions: Office environment

Roles, Responsibilities, Expectations

As a Medicare-certified hospice, we are mandated to include Volunteers as an important part of our organization. We are required to have at least 5% of our patient service hours provided by Volunteers.

Every year our Volunteers provide thousands of hours of service for our patients. The value of time is priceless in the eyes of our patients and their families.

Volunteer tasks can be patient related or non-patient related.
