The Aunt Mary's Storybook project brings into the Sheridan Correctional Center in Sheridan, IL a selection of brand new books, along with audio recorders. They assist participating prisoners in choosing an age-appropriate book for each of their children. Each of the participants are then given an opportunity to record him or herself reading the books for their children. On behalf of the incarcerated mother or father, our organization then sends the books and CDs to the children.
We are looking for several people to go with us in to the Sheridan Correctional Center to help incarcerated parents choose their books and to assist with the recording sessions. Volunteers must be available on Sunday 9 July 2017, Sunday 12 November 2017, as well as four Sundays in 2018 to be determined.
Volunteers must be open to working with diverse and justice-involved populations.
