As a Social Work Intern, you will learn how a social worker operates in an hospice environment, what services are required and hospice regulations. This quickly growing field is becoming ever more important in our aging population, and learning how it works will be invaluable to you in your future career.

Brookdale Hospice is a premier hospice provider headquartered in Nashville as part of the largest senior care provider in the United States. Brookdale Hospice provides hospice care that goes above and beyond the basics to address the needs of residents and families in our communites and beyond when faced with terminal illness.

At Brookdale Hospice, we treat the patient, not the disease. The focus is on care, not cure. Our patient's and their family's medical, social, emotional and spiritual needs are addressed by an interdisciplinary team of hospice professionals and volunteers. Brookdale Hospice considers the entire family, not just the patient, as the "unit of care". Families are encouraged to participate in the caretaking process. Terminal illness affects the entire family structure. Adjustment, mental process, self awareness, acceptance and grief are major parts of the dying process. Our licensed Social Workers and Chaplains are available to work with the entire family. Bereavement counseling is provided to families for up to one year after their loved one passes.

Mission Statement

Brookdale's mission "Eriching the lives of those we serve with compassion, respect, excellence and integrity," shapes us into the industry leader we are today. This is reinforced by our culture which is grounded in the common themes of Passion, Courage and Partnership. Passion means that serving seniors is our calling. We exceed expectations, have fun and celebrate life every day. Courage means we do what is right even when no one is watching. Partnership means we are all connected. We work and learn together-and we treat one another with respect, These themes are built on a foundation of trust. We build this trust by listening, understanding and partnering to create solutions that change lives.

Description

Hospice is a philosophy of care focused on comfort and quality of life at the end of life. It is designed to treat the whole person emotionally, socially, spiritually and physically by providing comfort and support to patients and their families when a life-limiting illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments. As part of the process, family members also receive care and support - all provided by a team of specially trained professionals and volunteers. Bereavement services for family continue for one year after the patient has died.

Brookdale's Hospice offers a full spectrum of care designed to respect the dignity of the individual. Our care is skilled and compassionate in its delivery with the goal of providing comfort and freedom from pain. At the same time, it aims to provide the patient with as much independence and control as possible, for as long as possible.
