Mission Trefoil

The Girl Scout Museum at Cedar Hill in Waltham houses one of the most extensive collections of Girl Scout memorabilia in the country. Archives include primary source photographs, newspapers and artifacts connected to the beginnings of the Girl Scout Movement in Massachusetts and showcasing life in Boston, Waltham and New Bedford over the past 100 years.

Visitors can work their way through the hands-on exhibits. Glass display cases highlight scrapbooks, photos, musical instruments, handicrafts, dolls, and many other artifacts that represent the evolution of Girl Scouting in Massachusetts, the United States, and the world.

The museum houses a variety of vintage uniforms, flags, badges and camping items, as well as publications that bring Girl Scouts’ rich history to life through crafts and songs, depicting what it was like to be a Girl Scout from decades past.

We are in need of Museum Docents willing to give tours and run hands-on activities during troop visits. Training is provided, all that is needed is a willingness to share the history of Girl Scouts of Eastern MA. Museum tours and activities are booked by appoint so docents are able to determine their own work schedule.

Description

Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts is an organization dedicated to girls and is a leader in innovative girl programming and collaboration. GSEM serves nearly 33,000 girls, ages 5-18, from 178 communities in Eastern Massachusetts. Our community of nearly 15,000 adult members includes volunteers, parents, caregivers, staff, alumnae, students, and professionals. Volunteers use their expertise, skills, interests, and life experience to shape fun and enriching leadership experiences for girls, and inspire them to reach their personal best. Volunteers help council staff facilitate the New Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls through exciting program opportunities: leadership/self-esteem, financial literacy, travel, health/wellness, science, technology, engineering, and math. Volunteers choose from several flexible options that fit their lifestyles, including short-term or long-term service working either directly or indirectly with girls.
