GleanSLO’s Farmer’s Market Collection Leader is responsible for leading a group of two or three other volunteers in the post-market collection (glean) at San Luis Obispo’s Thursday night farmers market and would be responsible for the following:
-Acting as a representative of GleanSLO, equipped with an understanding of the program as well as paper program materials provided by GleanSLO.
-Writing receipts to various donors as necessary.
-Collecting and reporting total pounds of gleaned produce.
Leaders must be able to commit to a little over an hour of service per week, from 7:55PM- 9:10PM on Thursday evening at the San Luis Obispo Farmers Market.

Description
Gleaning is the collection of leftover crops both large and small, from farmers' fields after they have been commercially harvested or from fields where it is not economically profitable to harvest. GleanSLO has expanded this definition to include the collection of surplus produce from backyards and gardens of community residents.
Working closely with growers, GleanSLO employees or volunteer leaders organize harvests to gather the fresh produce. Volunteer pickers sign up online, checking off a liability waiver that protects crop owners.
The produce collected is distributed by the Food Bank Coalition to our neighbors in need. Over 44,000 San Luis Obispo County residents are served by the Food Bank yearly.
