Are you creative and do you like teaching? Mercy House is looking for volunteers who would like to offer classes of their expertise on various topics to teach 1 hour sessions to the homeless resident's living in our shelters.
Who We Are: Mercy House is a non-profit organization that provides emergency and transitional services to the homeless in Orange County and Ontario. Our goal is simple; to end the cycle of homelessness for those entering our system of care.
Overview: Life Skills Instructors are needed to enhance the knowledge of our Residents and increase their individual capacity to be self-sufficient. Instructors may teach a subject that they are familiar with such as nutrition, exercise techniques, stress management, team building, etc.
Responsibilities: Teach a one hour class, one day a week, and provide necessary learning materials. Length of commitment varies depending on availability and open dates on our calendar. Instructors are able to teach however they see fit. There is no standing format for the classes.
Initial Impact: By teaching a life skills class, our residents are able to gain experience to succeed in life. Whether the topic is yoga, healthy cooking or budgeting, these are areas that will help our Residents lead a fuller and healthier life when they leave our program.
Sustainable outcome: You will have the opportunity to touch the lives of our residents living in our shelters.
Training and Support: You will be invited for an interview where you will be given a tour of our facilities. If approved to volunteer, you will be given documents to help you with your time at Mercy House.
