Harvesters provides emergency food assistance to low-income families. But many families need more than one-time emergency help with food. Federal nutrition assistance programs, such as SNAP (the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program formerly known as Food Stamps), are Harvesters’ partners in feeding the hungry. Harvesters’ SNAP Outreach Team helps people determine if they are eligible and assist those who are in completing the application.

The Bilingual SNAP Outreach Call Center Volunteer will:

Assist with food stamp applications

• Return calls from Spanish voicemail line
• Complete application over the phone with those who qualify
• Copy, email, and file copies of the application, adhering to strict confidentiality and security measures
• Potentially offer application assistance to help register qualified participants at agencies or events
• Desired Skills:
• Have a commitment to the mission of Harvesters
• Enjoy working with people
• Fluent in English and Spanish
• Strong verbal communication and active listening skills
• Compassionate and trustworthy
• Able to keep client information confidential
• Dependable - must commit to regular weekly volunteering for a period of six month
• Independent and accurate worker
• No lifting required
• Screening & Training:
• • All volunteers interested in this position will be interviewed by Harvesters’ staff.
  • Harvesters will provide training in SNAP application assistance and confidentiality procedures.
  • The volunteer will always be with other SNAP staff and/or AmeriCorps members.
