Refugees are legal immigrants who have fled persecution and war in their home countries. They come here from Africa, the Middle East, Southeast Asia and other locations around the world. They are invited by the U.S. government to resettle and make a new life here in Dallas.

Catholic Charities helps these newly arrived families get settled, learn English, find a job and become self-sufficient.

You can help adult refugees learn to speak, read and write English as a second language (ESL). No foreign language skills and no teaching experience required. We will show you how to assist a class, or lead one of your own.

Classes meet for 2 to 3 hours per session. You can teach once a week, or more, depending on your interest and schedule. We currently have openings for teachers and assistants on:

  • Any morning, Monday through Thursday, at 9:00 am.
  • Any evening, Monday through Thursday, at 6:00 pm

Our next orientation session for new volunteers is coming up soon, please call or email us for details.
