Friends of the Hunley

The H.L. Hunley is one of the most amazing artifacts in American History. Lost in 1864 and rasied in 2000, the Hunley has captured the imagination of millions of people around the world. And we need your help telling the story!

Almost immediately after the H.L. Hunley's recovery in the year 2000, the non-profit organization, Friends of the Hunley (FOTH), was overwhelmed with callers requesting to see the submarine first hand. A volunteer program was established to help make public tours of the Hunley submarine possible.

Tour guides should be comfortable learning the history of the Hunley and presenting it to a group of visitors. Other responsibilities can include greeting the guests, engaging with visitors, and answering any questions they may have. Volunteer guides are primarily needed on the weekends but there are also opportunities with private groups during the week. In addition to guides, we are looking for volunteers in the gift shop manning the ticket and/or merchandise registers, restocking product, and pricing new stock.

This is a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, practice your public speaking and surround yourself with science, technology, history and an amazing story.
