ORGANIZATION: Jumpstart Northern California

Join us for the 10th anniversary of Jumpstart’s Read for the Record, a global campaign that generates public support for high-quality early learning and highlights the importance of building children’s vocabulary and love for reading.

Each year, Jumpstart selects one children’s book as the catalyst for Read for the Record. This year’s campaign book, Not Norman: A Goldfish Story, written by Kelly Bennett and illustrated by Noah Z. Jones, is a humorous tale about a child who finds a new friend in an unexpected place. With vivid illustrations and expressive language, the story is sure to engage children and adults of all ages. Help us break the world reading record (again!) for the most people reading the same book on the same day.

We are hosting an event in celebration of Read for the Record on Friday, October 16, 2015 at the Portola Family Connections. We will be reading Not Norman: A Goldfish Story and will have several activities for about 40 children.

Hope you are able to join us!

About Jumpstart Northern California

Location:

235 Montgomery Street, Suite 1025, San Francisco, CA 94111, US

Mission Statement

Jumpstart is a national early education organization working toward the day every child in America enters school prepared to succeed.

Description

Jumpstart aims to close the gap in educational achievement between children from low-income communities and their wealthier peers, before that gap appears. In pursuit of this goal, Jumpstart recruits and trains college students, called Corps members, to help preschool-aged children in low-income neighborhoods develop the language, literacy, and social skills they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond. Jumpstart inspires children to learn, young adults to teach and lead, families to become more involved in their children’s education, and communities to progress together.
