Marketing & Events Internship

Boys & Girls Clubs of the Virginia Peninsula is looking for an Marketing & Events Intern to assist with the administration and implementation of our 9th annual Smart Smiles 5K fundraiser as well as creating marketing content. The position is unpaid but can be used for class credit. We ask for a time commitment of at least 10 hours per week between the hours of 9AM and 5PM. This internship will begin in May and end in September with the opportunity to extend throughout fall. Final schedules will be finalized upon acceptance.

Event Responsibilities Include:

  • Create and order signs and decorations
  • Pack and mail sponsor gifts
  • Design placemats

Marketing Responsibilities Include:

  • Develop stock of member biographies with pictures to use on #MemberMonday and prepare posts for social media
  • Spend time in Clubs taking pictures and creating marketing content based on our programs
  • Scan, lable, and archive digital versions of historical photos
  • Create #ThrowbackTHursday posts from historical archives
  • Research famous alumni (from all Clubs nationwiide) and prepare "happy birthday" posts for Twitter that reference the impact of Boys & Girls Clubs and include the celbrity Twitter handle to increase reach
  • Go to Boys & Girls Clubs Thrift Stores at least one day each week to get pictures of items to feature on social media
  • Merge and purge mailing lists for events, direct mail, and newsletters
  • Help organize valentine card project in the Clubs for the February stewardship mailing

In addition to these tasks, the intern will also be able to work with the Resource Development team to create and accomplish their own job duties per the intern’s professional goals and/or school requirements.

Skills: Qualified applicants will possess a high school diploma with at least 2 years of college education or equivalent experience. Applicants will also possess the following:

  • Excellent Verbal and Written Communication Skills
  • Initiative and Promptness
  • Ability to work Independently with Minimal Supervision
  • Ability to work with a Committee and Small Groups
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Familiarity with/willingness to learn marketing software such as Piktochart, InDesign, Photoshop, and Publisher, MailChimp, Piktochart and Hootsuite is necessary
  • Reliable transportation (approved travel costs will be reimbursed)

This internship does not guarantee employment with BGCVP after the internship is completed. However, the internship can be used for class credit.
