Join us for the 15th annual Hauntings at The Hermitage! This is a beloved family-friendly community event full of fun activities and spooky storytelling. We need a LOT of volunteers to help with a variety of jobs, and this listing is specifically for participating in the Haunted Hayride attraction!

The hayride's theme is "Ghostly Ball at The Hermitage" and we are looking for people with a sense of Halloween fun willing to dress as spooky ghosts or scared characters in historical garb. This is the most popular attraction, so having people with a sense of fun and adventure to dress up and play these parts is vital to everyone having a great time! Some volunteers will be along the route, and some that have strong acting abilities will be asked to play speaking roles with the guests on the wagon. You will get several breaks, dinner, and a really fun job and costuming, whether you can wear your own or we provide one for you.

We will ask volunteers to attend a run-through on Tuesday, Oct. 20 at 5:30 pm. If you're not able to make it, we'll catch you up when you arrive on Saturday the 24th.

Mission Statement

Our mission can be summed up by 3 words: preserve, educate, and inspire! By working to preserve The Hermitage, we seek to provide an educational space where the community can learn and discuss the complexities of President Jackson and his influential legacy in the United States today. His far-reaching impact on a wide range of issues and institutions is still felt significantly today, and we work to educate the public on the Jacksonian Era and spur conversation on that legacy and all it entails. As a volunteer for The Andrew Jackson Foundation, you help make this mission possible, whether a garden volunteer, gold cart driver, special event participant, or office assistant. We appreciate our volunteers' contributions to The Hermitage and our community!

Description

The non-profit Andrew Jackson Foundation, originally named the Ladies Hermitage Association, operates the home of President Andrew Jackson, 7th president of the United States. Our aim is to increase the public’s understanding of the complex life and legacy of Andrew Jackson and Jacksonian America, to discuss their relationship to events of today, and to inspire citizenship and active civic engagement. The Andrew Jackson Foundation endeavors to accomplish this through preservation, interpretation, exhibition, education, and research.

The Hermitage opened to the public in 1889. Occupying 1,120 acres, it is one of the oldest and largest historic site museums in the United States. It ranks as the third most visited Presidential home in the nation, along with Mount Vernon and Monticello, and attracts visitors from all over the world.
