Oakland Youth Aspire (OYA) is a free youth resource center open every Saturday 12:30-5pm in West Oakland. Our mission is to enrich the lives of youth by creating a fun and welcoming environment that promotes a healthy lifestyle and fosters open communication, empathy, and the development of interpersonal skills. Our vision is to help youth aspire to live healthy and productive lives, and develop fundamental skills to reach their fullest potential. We are currently looking for a volunteer to fill our Community Partnership and Outreach Director position on our board of directors. All of our board members are also involved in the program and co-lead the program at least 1 Saturday per month, as well as 10 hours per month to fulfill position responsibilities. This position requires candidates to successfully complete an interview with board members and serve in a volunteer capacity at OYA for 5 Saturdays within a 3-month timeframe and complete 1-2 projectsprior to membership.
Responsibilities:
1) Create and nurture community partnerships that align with the vision and mission of Oakland Youth Aspire
Existing partnerships-
- Saint Mary’s College of California (volunteer groups)
- Today’s Future Sound (program curriculum group)
- Goblinarium (program curriculum group)
- Parents and/or guardians
2) Direct volunteer recruitment, management and retention efforts for Oakland Youth Aspire
- Manage online volunteer application system
- Follow up with volunteer applicants via personalized email and phone call.
- Facilitate monthly volunteer orientation, revise presentation as needed
- Send weekly email to volunteers about program schedule
- Send text reminders to volunteers
- Create and implement volunteer appreciation plan
- Create and/or improve online systems to streamline volunteer management
3) Partner with communications director and fundraising director to achieve organizational objectives
- Assist with communication efforts
- Assist with fundraising efforts
4) Commit to 15 hours per month to fulfill position responsibilities including meetings and program attendance:
- Attend monthly board meetings, weeknight 7pm-9pm
- Participate in committee meetings as needed
- Participate in back to school events and holiday events
- Co-lead program 1x/month from 12pm-5pm
